Lea Tyler is a mixed media artist who currently lives and works in Carbondale, Colorado. She received her BFA with a concentration in ceramics from SUNY New Paltz in 2003. Upon her graduation she was awarded residencies at Anderson Ranch Arts Center and Carbondale Clay Center in Colorado. There Lea continued her ceramic practice as a technician and teacher, creating new curriculum and specializing in plaster mold-making and ceramic slip-casting processes.
Lea helped start Via Viva, a gallery featuring art and furniture made from reclaimed woods and other materials. In 2008 when the economy faltered Via Viva had a liquidation sale and closed. Lea then moved on to help create and open The Village Green Society, a high-end medical marijuana dispensary providing chiropractic care, acupuncture, massage and other alternative healing methods.
Having gained much business experience, Lea was motivated to pursue beginning her own business. When she returned to her home state of Vermont for a visit, an opportunity presented itself: to take on the next generation of Peggy Potter Bowls, a company that hand-finishes and decorates wooden bowls and serving utensils. Because of her plans to expand the business to include custom ceramic components, Lea has renamed the company tylerWARE.
